1) Introduction

Welcome to Lexis Read (“Lexis,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we share it, and the choices you have when you use Lexis (the “Service”).

2) Information We Collect

2.1 Information you provide

We collect information you provide directly, including:

• Account information (such as email address and authentication identifiers) when you create an account or sign in. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the name and email address that service shares with us; for Apple this may be a private relay address.
• User content you upload or create in the Service, such as:
  • EPUB files and related content you upload
  • Vocabulary lists, notes, highlights, bookmarks
  • Reading progress and learning activity (e.g., flashcard review history)
  • Language preferences and app settings
• Purchase information when you subscribe to Pro. On the web, Lemon Squeezy processes your payment and shares the subscription status with us. In the iOS app, Apple processes your payment and we receive the subscription status and an anonymised transaction identifier through RevenueCat. We never receive your card number.
• Support communications (such as messages you send us).

2.2 Information collected automatically

When you use the Service, we (and our infrastructure providers) may automatically collect:

• Log and device data, such as IP address, device/browser type, timestamps, pages/actions performed, and error logs (for security and reliability).
• Operational metadata needed to run the Service (for example, whether an upload succeeded).

Advertising measurement (only with your consent): On our public pages we may use the Meta Pixel and Meta Conversions API to measure whether our advertising works (for example, that a visitor tried the demo or created an account). It loads only after you choose “Accept cookies” in the cookie dialog; if you decline, nothing is sent to Meta. Where we send a sign-up event from our server, your email is hashed first. We do not use other third-party analytics. Basic server logs may still be generated for security, abuse prevention, and debugging.

3) How We Use Information

We use information to:

• Provide and operate the Service (authentication, uploads, reading progress, vocabulary, flashcards).
• Process translations you request.
• Secure the Service and prevent abuse.
• Maintain and improve reliability (debugging and performance monitoring).
• Respond to support requests and communicate service-related notices (e.g., policy updates).
• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

4) How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below.

4.1 Service providers

We use trusted service providers to operate the Service: hosting and analytics (Vercel), database (Neon), file storage (Vercel Blob), authentication (Clerk), subscription billing (Lemon Squeezy on the web; Apple and RevenueCat in the iOS app), email delivery (Resend), error monitoring (Sentry), and translation providers. These providers process information on our behalf to provide and secure the Service.

4.2 Legal and safety

We may disclose information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to:

• comply with law or legal process,
• protect the rights, safety, and security of the Service, our users, or the public,
• investigate, prevent, or take action regarding fraud, abuse, or security issues.

4.3 Business changes

If the Service is transferred (e.g., acquisition or asset transfer), information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

5) Translation Requests

If you use translation features:

• What we send: the text you choose to translate (typically the selected excerpt or minimum necessary text) and the target language.
• When we send it: only when you initiate a translation action or use a feature that requires translation.
• Accuracy: translations may be inaccurate or incomplete and should not be relied on as professional advice.

Avoid translating sensitive personal information if you do not want it processed by a translation provider.

6) Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use essential cookies and/or local storage required for login, session management, and security. With your consent, our public pages may also set Meta advertising cookies (_fbp, _fbc) used to measure our ads. Your choice is stored in a cookie (lx_consent) for 180 days, and you can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your cookies for this site. We do not use third-party analytics cookies.

7) Data Security

We use reasonable safeguards designed to protect information. However, no system is 100% secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8) Data Retention

We retain information as long as needed to provide the Service and for legitimate purposes such as security and dispute resolution.

• Account data and user content: retained while your account is active.
• If you delete your account: you can do this yourself at any time from Settings. Your account data, uploaded files and user content are deleted immediately and any web subscription is cancelled. Records we must keep for legal, tax or security reasons (such as purchase records) are retained only as long as required.
• Backups: may persist for up to 90 days before being overwritten.
• Security/operational logs: may be retained for up to 30 days (or longer if needed to investigate abuse/security incidents).

9) Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your information, and to object to or restrict certain processing where applicable.

You can delete your account yourself from Settings, in the app and on the web, without contacting us.

10) International Data Transfers

We and our service providers may process and store information in countries other than where you live. Those countries may have different data protection laws.

11) Children's Privacy

Lexis is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

12) Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date when changes are posted.
