Affiliate Disclosure

Last updated: April 27, 2026

Lexis participates in a small number of affiliate programs. When you click a “Bookshop,” “Amazon,” or “Audible” button inside the app and then buy a book, we may earn a commission from the retailer at no extra cost to you. The commission helps us keep developing Lexis.

Programs we use

  • Bookshop.org — supports independent bookstores. Roughly 10% of each sale goes to indie shops; we receive a small affiliate share.
  • Amazon Associates — Lexis is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.
  • Audible — when you sign up for or buy from Audible after clicking one of our links, we receive a referral bounty.

How we choose what to recommend

Our recommendations are not influenced by affiliate payouts. We recommend books based on what we think will help you read better, and we only attach affiliate buttons to books we would have recommended anyway. The Audible link in particular is shown after you finish a book in Lexis, framed as passive reinforcement on the commute — not as a primary input, because audiobooks cannot feed our flashcard engine.

What format actually works in Lexis

Lexis only accepts EPUB and PDF files for upload. That has consequences for how you should think about each affiliate link:

  • Bookshop.org sells physical books (paperback, hardcover) — great if you want a physical copy to keep on your shelf, but you cannot upload a paperback to Lexis.
  • Amazon probably will not give you a Lexis-compatible ebook. The Kindle format is DRM-locked and Lexis cannot open it. Amazon is a fine choice if you want a paperback, a hardcover, or the audiobook — not for the digital reading copy you would feed into Lexis.
  • Audible is voice-only — no text export — so it cannot feed the flashcard engine. Use it for passive reinforcement on commutes after you have already learned the material in Lexis.

For the EPUB you actually upload, the in-app “Search Stores”modal points to DRM-free shops (Standard Ebooks, Project Gutenberg, Kobo, Smashwords, and others). Those are not affiliate links — we surface them because they are what actually works.

Your control

You never have to click these buttons. The same books are available for purchase directly from the publishers and retailers without going through our links. If you have questions, contact us through the support page.
